Transferable skills
The doctoral thesis project and the original contribution to science connected to it are the two main aspects of doctoral studies. Doctoral candidates aquire a wide range of skills and key competences, which are of advantage for their further career, inside or outside the university.
The new doctoral study program has been designed to support doctoral candidates to advance and individuate their transferable skills. Early stage researchers combine subject-specific knowledge with presentation and publication skills. They are expected to set up research projects and carry them out successfully, to know the rules of academia and find their own career path within the scientific landscape.
Doctoral candidates who are admitted to the new three-year doctoral study program as well as those changing to the new curriculum are offered a series of courses in specific research skills. This focused way of training of key competences aims at supporting doctoral candidates in their development and enabling them to carry out their scientific tasks in a structured and purposeful way. Furthermore these workshops serve as a platform for exchange and networking for doctoral candidates studying at different faculties.
Participation in these courses should meet a doctoral candidate's personal needs as well the requirements of his doctoral thesis project and should be agreed upon with the supervisor/s in the Doctoral thesis agreement. Individual choice of courses should be based on annual progress reports.
