Proficiency in German

In order to be admitted to a degree programme at the University of Vienna you have to prove sufficient knowledge of German. The decision if and on which level you have to provide proficiency in German is made by the responsible Director of the Doctoral Study Programme (DSPL) and will be specified in the letter of admission.

Further information on accepted language diplomas etc. can be found here.

If you are in a programme which does not require the knowledge of German, you may notice however that it will make life much easier if you speak at least some German.

Please notice, that some of the PhD programmes demand a certain level of English knowledge. This is specified in the respective study programme.
